Covey Theater reimagines ‘Macbeth’ as psychological thriller set in 1962 asylum (review)

Conceived, adapted, and directed by The Covey Theater Company’s artistic director Garrett August Heater, this tour de force of revenge, recrimination and ruination is simply not your old English teacher’s “Macbeth.”
Set in the Dunsinane Hill Asylum for the Criminally Insane, the play’s premise revolves around a clinical brainstorm by the asylum’s medical staff to put on a production of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.” Both staff and patients play the characters, and both sides gain insights into what can cause a human being to commit inhuman acts. Unfortunately, the experiment has very real, disastrous results.
